Will Gaza Ceasefire Hold, Will Netanyahu Fall and Will Israel Stop Targeting Palestinians?

On The Freedom Side LIVE, Thursday, 1/16 at 3pm ET/12pm PT, hosts Rania Khalek and Eugene Puryear are joined by special guests: Yara Shoufani, a member of the Palestinian Youth Movement, joins the show to discuss the ceasefire deal that has been reached after 15 months of genocide in Gaza. Shoufani will discuss Israel’s ongoing massacres, the implications of the agreement for Gaza and all of Occupied Palestine and the ongoing struggle for total liberation. Anny Viloria Winnett, an organizer with the Party for Socialism and Liberation, Graduate Student Researcher and a PhD Candidate at the UCLA School of Public Health, will join the show from Los Angeles, where devastating wildfires have claimed at least 24 lives and displaced over 150,000 people. Winnett will discuss the systemic failures fueling this crisis—from the exploitation of prison labor to insurance company greed—and highlight how local residents are organizing to meet the urgent needs of their communities. Dr. Anis Germany, a Lebanese medical doctor, public health researcher, and political analyst, joins the show to discuss Lebanon’s new President, Joseph Aoun, the Army Commander-in-Chief elected by Parliament on January 9. Aoun takes office as Israel repeatedly violates the ceasefire with Lebanon, resulting in civilian deaths and widespread destruction of infrastructure. Germany will discuss the implications of Aoun’s presidency for Lebanon and Israel’s ongoing ethnic cleansing in the region. Dae-Han Song, with the International Strategy Center and a member of the No Cold War collective, joins the show to discuss the arrest of South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeo after he was impeached over his failed attempt to declare martial law on December 3. Song will discuss how Yoon’s arrest represents a major victory for the mass movement in defense of democracy that has swept the country. Mosaab Baba, a Researcher on Sudan, joins the show to discuss Sudan’s escalating civil war that has killed tens of thousands, displaced over 12 million, and pushed the country to the brink of famine. Baba will discuss the latest developments, including the Sudanese army’s recapture of the key city of Wad Madani and the international forces fueling the conflict. #breakthroughnews
